Fire damage on the weekend
Published on Sep 26, 2016 15:13

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This note is to make you aware of an incident of vandalism, which occurred at our school over the weekend. Early on Saturday morning, vandals set fire to the stairs and landing of portable number four, which is currently used for storage, as well as our play structure.

Fortunately fire crews were able to limit damage to the portable and we are working with the board office to determine what repairs need to be made to bring it back to normal. The play structure is not usable at this time and for the safety of students, it has been cordoned off. We are in the process of looking into having the play structure repaired.

In addition, there is a faint smoke odour in portable number five and as a result we have temporarily relocated the students to portable number six, which is currently empty. The board is conducting air cleaning in the portable and they will reassess the air quality at the end of the week.

We are grateful for the quick response of emergency personnel who were able to limit the damage of the fire. We also feel fortunate that the damage created by this senseless act can be repaired without serious inconvenience to the students and staff. Information  will provide parents and students with updates regarding the repair of the play structure.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school, if you have any questions or concerns.
