Dear Staff of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board,

As many of you are already aware, OSSTF, which represents our EAs, DECEs, Office and Clerical and Maintenance staff, has announced its intention to participate in one day strike action on Wednesday, December 4th. If this strike proceeds as planned we have made the decision to close our elementary and secondary schools for student learning.

We know that our educational support workers provide an invaluable service and in their absence we cannot ensure a safe learning environment for our students. Although classes may be cancelled for student learning, schools will be open and all non-striking staff are required to report to work as usual. Staff could expect to encounter picket lines and there may be vehicular delays upon arrival and departure.

If classes are cancelled on Wednesday there will be a significant impact on our families. We will be communicating with our parents and guardians directly so that they can make appropriate arrangements. We are also encouraging staff and families to check our board website at for updates. Please note that if this strike action is averted, schools, classes and before and after programs will be operating as normal and buses will be running.

We know that negotiations are scheduled throughout the weekend and into early next week and we continue to be hopeful that this one day strike can be averted. I would like to thank all of our staff for your patience and professionalism and ask for your continued prayers as we work through this difficult situation.

Yours in Faith,

Brian Beal

Director of Education
