Dear Parents and Guardians:
As expected, our education support workers who are represented by OSSTF are participating in a full one day strike on Wednesday, December 11th. This is resulting in the closure of all SMCDSB elementary and secondary schools. This includes the cancellation of buses and before and after programming. All classes will resume as normal on Thursday, December 12th.
At the SMCDSB, OSSTF represents 750 Education Assistants, Designated Early Childhood Educators, Office and Clerical and Maintenance staff. With the absence of these employees we cannot ensure a safe learning environment for our students.
We know that school closures are difficult for students and families and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this ongoing collective bargaining process. We are committed to providing all those impacted with open and timely communication and we continue to pray for a resolution.
