Elementary Report Card Update

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Report cards are being sent home today for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. As you know, the labour situation impacting the education sector across the province remains unresolved. One of the Ontario English Catholic Teacher Association’s (OECTA) job sanctions includes not adding comments to report cards.

This means that the report card that you receive will look different. Students will receive a final grade for subjects and learning skills, but the comment section will not be completed. If your child has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) with modifications to the program in a subject area, you can expect to see the IEP box checked, and an IEP ministry statement for the provincial report card within the comment box.

For Kindergarten students, a single sentence comment will be included in each of the four learning frames on your child’s report card. For students receiving an Alternative Report Card, expect to see a single sentence comment as an assessment of the expectation set out within their IEP.

In addition, due to some technical issues with our student information system (unrelated to the labour situation) the attendance showing on this report may not be completely accurate for your child. We are working to resolve this issue.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through these labour challenges. Should you have any questions regarding your child's progress, please contact your child’s school.

Yours in Faith

Brian Beal

Director of Education
