March 30th - April 3rd, 2020

As a follow-up to Mr. Beal's message on Sunday, March 29th, I thought that I would touch base with our St Teresa of Calcutta School community.  Without stating the obvious, we know that we are currently creating a new chapter in our history books. The whole world as we know it has changed in a matter of a few weeks!  I ask you to review the following bullets:

  • As you may have heard, Premier Doug Ford has announced that schools will not re-open on April 6 due to COVID-19.

  • Please draw your attention to a new parent and student support material available on our website at (Learn at Home tab).

  • These resources were prepared by our staff and are meant to complement the Ministry of Education’s Learn at Home website. These materials are not intended to replace classroom learning during school closures, but rather as an opportunity for students to engage in some grade specific faith and learning activities at home, in a way that is reasonable or manageable for families.

  • On April 6th, we will begin our distance learning program, which will include connections with classroom teachers. The Ministry of Education, provincial associations, and school boards are working collaboratively to determine what distance learning will look like. Once these plans are finalized, more details to our families, students and staff will be provided.

  • Children will grow restless and become anxious with self-isolation, as parents, we need to continue to be patient, this is new territory.

  • Kindly visit some of the Mental Wellness Resources through the Canadian Psychological Association.

Finally, your children will continue to need your strength and understanding, as they are also worried about what is currently happening.  I wish all of you strength, patience, and empathy every morning when you wake up. May you find the opportunity to come together as a family for reflection and prayer at some point during the day.

Mrs. Newman
